Technical Project Manager (UK)

Job Summary

The Technical Project Manager will oversee the end-to-end delivery of data centre projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, and applying technical expertise to ensure the successful execution of projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of data centre projects, including new builds, upgrades, and retrofits.

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring continuity and alignment with project objectives.

  • Coordinate procurement processes for materials, equipment, and subcontractors.

 

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between all stakeholders.

  • Manage client expectations, ensuring alignment with project goals and deliverables.

 

Technical Oversight

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to review designs, specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Ensure that all technical aspects of the project meet industry standards and client requirements.

  • Monitor and manage the integration of critical systems, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure.

  • Address technical issues and provide resolutions in a timely manner.

 

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.

  • Allocate resources effectively, balancing project demands and team capacity.

  • Report on financial performance, including forecasting and cost tracking.

 

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure projects comply with relevant UK and international standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, TIA-942, ISO 27001).

  • Conduct regular site visits and audits to verify quality and progress.

  • Manage project documentation, including contracts, drawings, and change orders.

 

Post-Project Support

  • Oversee commissioning, testing, and handover processes.

  • Ensure all deliverables, including as-built documentation, are completed to client satisfaction.

  • Provide support during the defects liability period and coordinate resolution of issues.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing complex data centre projects or other critical infrastructure.

  • Strong technical engineering experience.

  • Expert MS Excel.

  • Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, PMP).

  • Familiarity with data centre industry standards.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of detail.

  • Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar).

 

Desirable Skills

  • Certifications such as CDCP, CDCDP, or DCEP.

  • Experience in modular or prefabricated data centre construction.

  • Understanding of sustainability practices and energy efficiency in data centres.
