Data Centre Design Consultant (UK)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Centre Design Consultant to join our dynamic team in the data centre services industry. The Data Centre Design Consultant will be responsible for providing expert design and consultancy services for the development, construction, and optimization of data centres. The role includes working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to deliver innovative and efficient designs that meet performance, sustainability, and budgetary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering

Lead the conceptual and detailed design of data centre infrastructure, including data, power, cooling, network layouts, and physical security.

Develop and interpret technical specifications and design documents.

Conduct capacity planning, power usage effectiveness (PUE) calculations, and redundancy analysis (e.g., Tier levels).

Integrate sustainability and energy efficiency measures into data centre designs.
Client Engagement

Collaborate with clients to define requirements, objectives, and project timelines.

Present design concepts, technical solutions, and project updates to stakeholders.

Provide expert guidance to clients on industry trends and emerging technologies.
Project Management

Support the project lifecycle from initial scoping and feasibility studies to commissioning and handover.

Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, and contractors.

Ensure all designs comply with regulatory standards and certifications (e.g., Uptime Institute, BREEAM).
Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure all designs meet relevant UK and international standards (e.g., BS EN, ASHRAE).

Conduct design reviews, audits, and risk assessments.

Ensure proper documentation of designs, calculations, and specifications.
Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience in data centre design and engineering, including MEP systems.

Strong understanding of industry standards (e.g., Uptime Tier standards, ISO 27001, TIA-942).

Knowledge of cooling systems (DX, chilled water, free cooling), power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear), and structured cabling.

Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and computational analysis software.

Experience managing end-to-end design projects, including stakeholder engagement.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and efficiency.

Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy efficiency strategies.
Desirable Skills

Relevant certifications, such as CDCDP (Certified Data Centre Design Professional) or DCEP (Data Centre Energy Practitioner).

Experience in modular or prefabricated data centre solutions.
